Scaling up your painting with Chris Long

Chris long is teaching the class

A daily painter for over a decade, Long, previously a figure sculptor, taught himself how to use a variety of two-dimensional mediums while selling his work on the street in New Orleans. A full-time RVer until 2022, he’s known for painting the atmospheric cloudscapes and campground nocturnes he encountered in his travels. You can find thousands of his original pieces on Instagram: @long_painter

Workshop Description

Scaling Up Your Paitning Can Be Quick and Simple

Using simple alla prima techniques (brush & knife) and proportion measuring, you can confidently scale any small study to a presentation size painting, keeping your mark-making and energy intact.

I’ll be working from a 6″x6″ oil painting reference and creating a 24″x24″ piece from start to finish.

Materials List:

I’m using a gessoed, base-coated 24″x24″ cradled wood panel and will have a completed 6″x6″ oil study to work from. (CMYK, white, cad yellow medium). No medium.

Probably a couple larger flat brushes (1/2″, 1″, 2″) and two palette kinves, 8″ beveled and a 4″ spade.
