Join artists Bryan Mark Taylor and Vanessa Rothe for a transformative and skill-focused art retreat in the heart of France’s Loire Valley. This retreat is designed for artists of all levels who want to see visible improvements in their work while painting world-renowned French landscapes. Bryan and Vanessa, both well-known for their landscape and still-life paintings, will teach you to recognize and use important value changes, establish solid light and shadow relationships, create dynamic shapes and dimensional forms, and master design principles-both linear and atmospheric. You will also learn how to create a compelling focal point while juggling these essential elements. Bryan and Vanessa will guide you through a structured learning plan that includes lectures, demos, and exercises to help you acquire new skills rapidly and put them directly into practice. With a combination of painting on location at the château where the group will stay and trips to iconic locations like the charming town of Saumur and the stunning Château de Villandry, you will build a rich collection of reference material and new work. These trips offer inspiring subjects to expand your artistic horizons, from Renaissance gardens to historic architecture. You will improve your observational skills, study exciting new techniques, and receive personalized individual attention after each demo and session. The retreat culminates in a mini-exhibition, where participants share their progress and receive constructive feedback from Bryan and Vanessa. By the end of this retreat, you’ll leave with improved technical skills, a understanding of how to bring life and emotion to your paintings.
In addition to teaching still life and landscape painting in the Loire next fall, Vanessa Rothe, an accomplished museum and art history lecturer and contributing arts editor, will present a beautiful evening slideshow and a few on location discussions, on the art history of France, the incredible long history of various kings in the Loire Valley and chateaux in the region, and the artists who later called it home. Including exciting lore on Italian artist Leonardo Da Vinci and how the Mona Lisa first came to France and later came to be a jewel in the Louvre museum in Paris.

The Château de Bouthonvilliers is located in the Dunois region, or more precisely in the Perche Göet, a charming region only one hour far from central Paris. A magnificent forest, of more than 100 hectares, surrounds this house which in the past was called Boscovilore (House in the woods). The château de Bouthonvilliers is surrounded by 20 hectares of beautiful English-style grounds classified Historic Monument.
The park of the estate is also composed of a « small » French-style garden, a 1-hectare vegetable garden with a swimming pool, a pond, outbuildings and a 19th century chapel set in a 16th century dovecot. This chapel is still consecrated and can hold about 50 people for religious ceremonies. The main body of the house is a 7meter-long manor house with a double exposure. The east/ west orientation makes it very bright and sunny. The elegant symetrical architecture dating back to the 18th century got Bouthonvilliers classified as a Historic Monument. The castle is composed of two 16th century (Henry IV th) wings and a 18th century central part with mansard roofs. Inside, the period wooden floors and moulding contributes to the extreme refinement of this exceptional house. You will be able to live a unique experience in this timeless environment.

About the artist

Bryan Mark Taylor

A painter, lecturer, entrepreneur, and world traveler, Bryan Mark Taylor is a renaissance man. As a painter, Bryan has won top awards in national and international shows, including three top awards in the 2022 ARC International Salon and a gold medal at the California Art Club’s annual exhibition in 2009. Bryan’s work is often featured in art and design magazines, including Plein Air, American Art Collector, Fine Art Connoisseur, and Imagine FX.
In addition, you can find his artwork in private corporate and museum collections, including in the US, Europe, China, India, South America, and New Zealand. Bryan is a sought – after teacher and lecturer who has taught courses at the Academy of Art University, Pixar Sentient Academy, and the /Scott sdale Artists School. In Addition, Bryan has been a featured speaker at the Plein Air, CTNX, Fantastic Arts, Dragonsteel, and VisionX conferences. As a product designer and entrepreneur, Bryan developed a premier outdoor painting system, the STRADA Easel, used by plein air artists worldwide. In addition, he cofounded Sentient Academy and Vision X global art conference, which has inspired and taught artists from K – 12, university, and professional levels. Bryan finds inspiration as he travels around the glob e, carefully observing and capturing cities, cultures, and nature’s everyday miracles. He was born in Portland, Oregon. He received his BA from BYU in 2001 and an MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2005. He currently lives with his wife and children in Utah, USA

About the artist

Vanessa Françoise Rothe

Vanessa Françoise Rothe is a revered art dealer, curator, lecturer, fine artist and contributing editor for various top American fine art magazines, with over 25 years of experience in all aspects of the fine art world. She was born in Hollywood, CA and grew up in the artists’ colony of Laguna Beach, California. She studied Business Marketing and French literature at the University of San Diego, and UC Irvine in California. She then received a special art scholarship and had a classical art education at t he Laguna College of Art and Design, achieving Dean’s list honors throughout her schooling. Rothe lived and worked for six years in Switzerland as a graphic designer and art director then later work ed with Disney Press, Sony and more for 15 years in Cali fornia. Rothe started her fine art career as a fine artist with three successful solo exhibitions at Wendt Gallery in Laguna Beach from 2002 – 2008.
Her works were quickly included in the Richard Schmid Fine Art Auctions and in the ”Artists for a New Century ” at the Bennington Center for the Arts in 2012. Her work has since been included in important exhibitions at top galleries and museums including: Arcadia Contemporary NYC, Abend Gallery, The Richard Schmid Fine Art Auctions, Galerie L’oeil du Prince, Pari s, Salmagundi Club, The Laguna Art Museum, Paul Scott Gallery, AZ, The American Impressionist Society Annual Exhibitions, The Bowers Museum and the California Museum of Fine Art. Rothe’s fine art work now appears in the permanent collection at the Hilbert Museum of California Art. Vanessa is a member of the American Friends of the Musée D’Orsay, an artist member of OPA, a Signature member of the American Impressionist Society and served as its Educational Director for 4 years. She is an Artist member of the renown Salmagundi Club NY, and advisor on its PR team . She is proudly sponsored by Rembrandt oil paints with Royal Talens NA.
In addition to her fine art career Rothe has been a gallery owner/art dealer at VRFA Gallery for the last 15 years. She has cur ated over 40 exhibitions from LA, to NYC, to Laguna Beach to Paris, including her Americans in Paris exhibitions and events in Paris, France. She has lectured at the Salmagundi Club NYC, and at the Laguna Art Museum and the Hilbert Museum of California Art . She served as the West Coast Editor for Fine Art Connoisseur magazine for 16 years and is currently a contributing editor for American Art Collector, American Fine Art magazines and currently has her own column The Art Industry Insider in International Fine Art magazine. Rothe is also now proud to be a contributing editor f or the new Modern Impressionist Magazine
