Built in 1795 as a private home, McArthur Manor became a hotel in the 1970s and is now reserved solely for private gatherings. For our week, it is yours alone — sixteen individually styled en-suite bedrooms, a private traditional pub, and the McArthur Pavilion: 140 square metres of glass, walnut panelling, and warm light that will serve as our studio, gallery, and gathering place. More than a decade of hosting groups has shaped every detail, from the noon check-in to the unhurried four o’clock farewell.

Jenny Aitken RSMA is an award-winning UK-based painter whose celebrated work captures the beauty of changing light, movement and colour.
Born in Lincoln in 1975, Jenny graduated in Art & Art History from Aberystwyth University in 1997. With a background in photography, she went on to develop her painting practice as a self-taught artist and has now been painting professionally for over 25 years.
Jenny often paints outdoors from life, refining her work later in the studio. Her distinctive use of tonal contrast—subtle greys against vibrant colour, rich darks and delicate light—reflects the influence of masters such as Sorolla, Sargent and Hopper.
In 2023, Jenny was elected a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) and was awarded the prestigious Baltic Exchange Prize.
She is also the author of two bestselling books on painting, Painting into the Light (2024) and Beginner’s Guide to Plein Air Painting in Oils (2026). Her work is represented by galleries including The Whitethorn Gallery in Ireland and Haynes Fine Art in London.
Alongside her painting practice, Jenny is a passionate and experienced tutor who enjoys encouraging others to develop their own artistic voice.
“Teaching is a natural extension of my work as an artist. I love sharing what I have learned so far, and helping people grow in their own practice.”
