“I look at my paintings as a vehicle for creating a sense of light, atmosphere and mood. I continually seek subject matter that is naturally being played out instead of posed. I want my subjects to look fresh, I want them to have a breath of life in the two dimensional realm. If the painting has emotion and expression beyond the technical aspects that were employed to create it then it is a success! It is my hope that the viewer should lose their awareness of the boundaries of the painting. I am after the fleeting moments of life, those moments that happen sometimes in a quick glance!”

Joe Gyurcsak paints a broad range of subject matter including interiors, still life, figurative and landscape painting. He has a keen sense for capturing the essence of his subject matter with a bold and candid approach.
Joe studied at Parsons School of Design and The School of Visual Arts in New York and had a successful illustration career early on. Later went on to study with many leading representational painters of our time in pursuit of a fine art career.
He exhibits, lectures, judges, and demonstrates across the country. Joe is a sought-after instructor because of his ability to convey complex concepts and techniques to students in simple terms. He has taught workshops and privately for more than 30 years. Joe has won numerous awards for his studio and plein air works, and is in collections worldwide.
