Alla Prima Landscape Painting From Photos

Chris long is teaching the class

A daily painter for over a decade, Long, previously a figure sculptor, taught himself how to use a variety of two-dimensional mediums while selling his work on the street in New Orleans. A full-time RVer until 2022, he’s known for painting the atmospheric cloudscapes and campground nocturnes he encountered in his travels. You can find thousands of his original pieces on Instagram: @long_painter

Workshop Description

Using simple alla prima techniques (brush & knife) and proportion measuring, you can confidently scale any small study to a presentation size painting, keeping your mark-making and energy intact.

I’ll be working from a 6″x6″ oil painting reference and creating a 24″x24″ piece from start to finish.

Participants may use any materials they want to if they’re working along, however I’ll be using the following:

  • Three small gessoed & toned wood panels
  • Six pigments (water soluble oil paint)
(Titanium white, lemon yellow, cad yellow deep, cyan, luminous opera pink, black)
  • Flat/ filbert brushes (1/2” & 1/4”) and spade palette knife
  • Glass palette w/razor blade scraper
